Training and Experience

I received my M.D. from UCSF in 2001. I completed residency training at New York University, fellowship training in psychiatry at UCSF, and psychoanalytic training at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. My experience includes work in community/public health settings such as psychiatric emergency evaluations at Bellevue Hospital in New York and long-term management in community supported housing in San Francisco, as well as in private practice.

My treatment approach is informed by psychoanalytic ideas; in particular, that people can best realize their potential to grow in the context of supportive relationships. Contemporary psychoanalysis has evolved since it was first practiced over a century ago; the American Psychoanalytic Association's website contains more information about psychoanalysis if you are interested in learning more about this treatment option.
